Alder-Person Nachreiner "I don't Like this at all" on purchase of Ambulance before referendum.

Portage city officials are moving forward with a plan to start their own Emergency Medical Services department which would require a referendum vote to raise the city tax levy. Former City Administrator Shawn Murphy explained in January that since this was not budgeted for the city, they will need to find the funds to pay for the ambulance service and they are exploring other options. City of Portage Fire Department Chief Troy Haase blames Former City Administrator Shawn Murphy , saying "We would have had all this taken care of last April if it wasn't for Shawn Murphy".

Alder-person Dennis Nachreiner said "When we first approved this it was until September or November because if the referendum failed we could get our $3,000 back", "Now we haven't had a referendum and now we are going to purchase ambulances". Current city administrator Michael Bablick stated, "This referendum for a variety of reasons cant fail because we still don't have any money to pay Aspirus.
The ambulance cost is $270,785, the City has paid approximately $196,000 and needs the Common Council to fund the remaining commitment.
